Launched in 2003, this Chair is driven by an interdisciplinary spirit in which the economic and social sciences cooperate with the biological and physical sciences. Its purpose is to help respond to the major challenges of the coming years by improving knowledge and teaching within the field of sustainable development. The Chair's means of action can involve both general and specialised education, as well as research, and more specifically the following:
• Creation of courses in the major Economic Sciences, Eco-Sciences and Earth Sciences, including seminars led by Humanities and Social Sciences Departments and work placements for programmes with scientific options,
• Creation of a specialised course in the "Economics of Sustainable Environmental and Energy Development" for the Ecole Polytechnique Masters,
• Development of research actions and campaigns to promote the research which addresses the general theme of the Chair,
• Fulfilment of the international dimension of the Chair: invitation of international professors, colloquia, scientific cooperation at the international level, and partnerships with international organisations, public agencies, companies and other non-governmental organisations.
The chair is held by Dominique Bureau, Professor at Ecole Polytechnique.
